Overview
The Alaknanda River Rafting Adventure is one of the most exhilarating and diverse white-water experiences in India. Fed by the ancient glaciers Satopanth and Bhagirathi Kharak, the Alaknanda flows through the heart of the Garhwal Himalayas, carving dramatic gorges before merging with the Bhagirathi to form the sacred River Ganges.
This expedition begins in Chamoli, near the holy town of Badrinath, and follows the river downstream through legendary confluences and pilgrim towns such as Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, Devprayag, before finally concluding in Rishikesh. Along the way, rafters experience a powerful mix of Grade III, IV, and V rapids, making this journey ideal for experienced rafters and serious adventure seekers.
With over 75 rapids spread across different river sections, the Alaknanda offers everything from technical white water to long, fast wave trains. Iconic rapids such as Hillary Fall, Kakkar Fall, Holy Hole, Confluence Rapids, and popular Ganges rapids near Rishikesh create a progression from challenging to celebratory.
The expedition is complemented by riverside camping on sandy beaches, surrounded by forests, mountains, and spiritual landscapes. Ending in the adventure capital of Rishikesh, this journey is both physically demanding and deeply rewarding.
